Where typical edge banders can be quite expensive and limit you to only edge banding straight surfaces, the Festool Conturo KA 65 promises to do a lot more, for less.
Edge banding by hand can be slow and tedious, so it is always great when you can automate the process; but most edge banding systems can only do straight lines. What’s even worse is that they take up a lot of shop space. Festool designed the Conturo to be small and portable, so it can be used when needed and put away when not. It also has the advantage of being able to edge band inside and outside curves, as well as straight surfaces.
It can handle all types of wood, plastic, or melamine edge banding ranging from 23/32″–2-9/16″ wide and 1/32″–1/8″ thick. It features a self-contained glue cartridge system and a digital display that guides the user through all the stages of use and provides useful information such as temperature and glue level.
The Festool Hand Held Edge Bander CONTURO KA 65 will retail for $2,800, while the Conturo + Edge Trimming Set will cost $3,200. It also looks like there will be other accessories available that can turn the otherwise portable edge bander into an edge banding station.
