News

Despite the relatively small size of the current laser distance measurers on the market, sometimes they can be hard to handle. In certain situations it can be awkward to hit the buttons. A new pencil-like design from Hilti might just remedy some of those ergonomic issues when they arise.

Every day it seems some new app comes out that makes smartphones even smarter. They are used to solve many problems people come across throughout the day, soon we will be able to add laser measuring to that list. A new smartphone app is being developed by Andrew Leyden called Phaser Tape that uses a separate laser module to deliver surprisingly accurate measurements. The app works by using the lasers from the module and the phone's built in camera to determine the correct distance. The Phaser Tape offers a measuring distance of between 30 - 50 feet...

If you don't own a laser distance measurer yet, you have no idea what you are missing; and with Bosch's introduction of the GLM 80, the reasons are growing more and more with every new release. I still use my old Bosch DLR165 at work all the time even though it doesn't have an inch only measurement, and I would be lost without it. The new GLM 80 has so many improvements over the previous models that don't know where to begin. Probably the most exciting feature would have to be the built in...

Bosch is bringing us a smaller more compact cross-line laser with their new GLL2-40. I have the older GLL2-50 laser that I purchased when it first came out, and judging by the photos, the GLL2-40 appears to be quite a bit smaller. After a quick look at the specs I can see that the GLL2-40 is smaller in length, width, and height. The smaller size does come in handy in many cases, but the small size of the laser does indeed come at a cost to the laser's accuracy. The GLL2-40 has an accuracy of ±1/8-in...

Craftsman has just entered the laser measuring market, which would normally be good news, but in this case, Craftsman has me wondering why they even bothered. It is not as though the new laser measurer is a bad tool, it is just a tool that has too little to offer for its price in today's market. A mispriced tool, as it were. At a price just shy of $100, the Craftsman Accutrac laser measurer can measure distances of up to 100 feet, calculates length, area, volume, does Pythagorean measuring and even has a backlit LCD screen....

Bosch is a German company, so as expected Europe gets all the cool Bosch tools before we get them here in the US. Yeah it sucks, but this allows us to get a sneak peak at some of their latest gadgets before, or (the sad part) if they make it to the US market.

Introduction: Up until a few years ago, it was almost impossible for the average person to afford a digital laser rangefinder of any kind; the fact that they were also unreliable didn’t help either. Now with the advancements of newer technologies, and cheaper costs, DLR's have come down quite a bit in price over the past few years. The Bosch DLR165K is also a lot cheaper then most other DLR's because it is capable of about half the distance range. This for most people is a great thing, because who really needs to measure...
