Key to Long Tool Life.

One of the keys to long tool life is proper maintenance, Plus is does give you something to do on a slow day. Here I have disassembled and cleaned one of my old saws.

I like to use Stihl weed whip gear case grease as it seams to hold up really well it is formulated to work on high speed gearing and can withstand a bit of heat and is just light enough to keep the gears lubed. I also like to lube the blade guard bearing area with PB Blasters dry lube, as it doesn't attract sawdust like an oil would. The dry lube also does wonders on the saws shoe, as long as your using it on wood that will never see any finishing, as it repels most common finishes.

All buttoned back up with a fresh blade. The brushes where fine. no dust near the switch. 15 to 20 minutes twice a year plus a little mechanical sympathy and you could also end up with 20+ year old saws.
