WeedEater One Compact Riding Mower Hot

Weedeater_one

I typically do not cover landscaping tools, but there is a first for everything and I know people have an interest in anything that will make life easier or more enjoyable.

The grass in my yard is starting to come out hibernation and getting to the point where it needs to be cut. Probably like many of you, mowing is not something I enjoy; for some reason I do not like pushing a mower when it is 100 degrees in the summer.

The WeedEater One riding mower looks like it was designed for people like me in mind. It is much smaller then a typical riding mower at only 36 inches in width, which should be well suited for people with a good sized yard. Even at a much smaller size, it still has features you might not expect, like an electric start with a pull start backup, cruise control, and reverse. Most push mowers use a blade size of about 20 inches, but because the WeedEater One uses a larger 26 inch blade it should significantly cut down on your mowing time. Pushing the compact mower is a 190cc Briggs & Stratton engine. The WeedEater One is priced at about $750 which is not cheap compared to a push mower, but is much lower then the typical $1000 riding mower low end price.

I purchased this unit at Kmart in Feb 2010. Got to use it for four lawn mowings, before the friction drive unit started to come apart. It only has 6 hours on it.

Contacted the supplier, who indicated it can only be repaired by an authorized dealer. Three of the suggested dealers do not work on it. The fourth was a fax machine. The last can't get to it for three weeks.

The company absolutely REFUSED so send me the required part, even if I payed for it. (Its under warranty for two years) Kmart can't give me a refund, I've had it for over 90 days. So I'm stuck with it.

The mower works well, but six hours between failures is not acceptable. Finally got two different suppliers willing to send the part at $99.00, but they were backordered for 4 weeks.

Finally found Sears has the part in stock. So I ordered it. Now to see if the replacement part lasts more than 6 hours.

My conclusion. Do not buy this unit.

Perfect for my 1/2 acre property. It climbs a 10 degree slope with my 220 pounds on board with the mower engaged with no problems. Great value for the money.

Not sure what some of these people are talking about. I'm 200 lbs and this climbs hills with no problem. Not sure what the slope is but it sure used a lot of my energy to push a mower up it.

I can't speak for others' experience w. the Weedeater One, I would just suggest taking any negative reviews w. a grain of salt. They were almost enough to cause me to pass on trying this little rider, but I'm so glad I didn't. Paid $650 this afternoon at the local Walmart, & that included a $100 Wallyworld gift card. Got it home, fueled up, checked the oil & she cranked right up. Headed for my drainage ditch which has a fairly steep section, and SURPRISE, contrary to user reviews re the Weedeater One not being able to pull anything but the most shallow incline, this little mower had NO PROBLEM climbing out of the ditch, and that was w. the blades engaged & in medium gear. Cuts great, runs great, drives great (I especially appreciate the adjustable seat, as I am 6'2"/210 lbs). For the money, this little mower is a winner. And if you do happen to have a problem, Walmart has the most liberal return policy I know.

We bought this mower and promptly returned it! We have a smaller yard but it does have a few inclines. The mower will not go up the incline and gets stuck often. It also is very "jerky" and feels as though it may tip over on any incline. If you have a smaller, completely flat (and I mean completely), you may be ok with this mower. However, I would not recommend this mower if you have any incline in your yard at all.

I bought this last week. I have a average yard. It cuts well, but does not do hills. I have a very small hill the rest is flat. It could not make it up the hill no matter what I tried. It does going down hill very well. If you have a average flat yard I would say go for it. It has no gas pedel so there is no way to add any power.

If I was shopping for a mower I would be looking for an older Ransomes walk behind or a Walker MT zero turn. Even a beat commercial machine will out work a new chiwanese wonder machine. Especially when it comes time to buy replacement parts.
Think about your job, which tool would you rather depend on, a new harbor freight circular saw or an older Porter-Cable or Makita?
Landscapers tend to dump there older equipment fairly cheap, Craigslist is your friend.

It gives a new dimension to our old lawn mowers. But for that price, maybe I should stick to my old lawn mower.

:sad:I bought this lawn mower due to it was a cheep riding lawn mower. As soon as I got it home I knew I made a mistake. This lawn mower is made for small flat yards only. Also if you any hills or dips in your yard this it not the mower for you. I had scalped my lawn with this so called mower and also got stuck going up a small hill in my yard. Thank god the hardware store took it back. The manager even told upon taking back that this mower is pretty much made for people with small yards that dont wont to push a mower. To give you an example of how crappy this mower is, I ran over a small mole hill and it killed the mower and bent the blade. Pretty much you get what you pay for.

 After buying a house with a large yard before selling our old house, we wanted something to cut down time on mowing. This mower is not made for large yards or anything other than a "light duty" application. After 5 weeks of pretty heavy use there was a drive-train problem. The local authorized service center said it was not adjusted properly at time of assembly. rather than wait 4 months or more for the back-ordered part, I took it back to walmart for a full refund! I don't recommend this rider for anything other than small, flat yards (as previously mentioned)

After 3 months of light use, the steering mechanism failed. I took it in for repair at a dealer, and discovered that they had 2 others there with the same problem. Nevertheless, Weedeater denied warranty coverage for all three. I would like to start a class action suit. If you are having similar problems, please email me at sibenjam@gmail.com
