Porter-Cable has just announced the products that will hopefully be just the first of many in their 12-volt line. The new 12-volt lithium-ion tools include a drill/driver, impact driver, and a compact reciprocating saw. As a direct result of the economy, Porter-Cable's goal with these tools is to offer quality at a low price that everyone can afford. While their big brother DeWalt went with a special battery in their 12V tools, Porter-Cable opted to stick with the in-handle design to cut down on costs.

The first in the line up is the PCL120DDC-2 12V Max Compact 3/8” Drill/Driver Kit. At a height of 7.5” and a weight of only 2.4 lbs, its packs 220 in-lbs of torque and two speeds of drilling at 0-315/0-1200 RPM. Did I mention the 20 clutch settings for driving screws. Next is the PCL120IDC-2 12V Max Compact 1/4” Impact Driver Kit. It has a length of 6.5”, a weight of 2.6 lbs and packs 950 in-lbs of torque. Do we really need 18V impact drivers anymore? I think not.

Both of the above tools also come with some extra features that are like icing on the cake. PC knows that these tools are awkward to set down because of their high center of gravity, so they have included a belt clip for when you need to free up your hands. Said belt clip can be positioned on either side of the tool, for lefties or righties. Need an extra bit or screw? PC has used the extra space towards the back of the tool to add a magnetic parts holder.

The 3rd of the 12V line is the PCL120CRC-2 Compact reciprocating saw they call the ClampSaw. Why is it called the ClampSaw? Because not only does it cut like any other compact recip. saw, it also has the ability to hold your material on both sides. Placing your materials between the clamping surfaces allows you to make a cut without having to worry about the blade slipping off. Another aspect of the tool that sets it apart is the 3-position pivoting handle. You can use the handle in the vertical position, the horizontal position, or even in between.

Each kit mentioned comes with 2 batteries, a 30 minute charger, a soft side storage case, and a driver bit or blades to get you started. A 2-piece Drill & Impact Kit PCL212IDC will also be available. All kits come with a 3 year limited warranty, a 1 year free service contract, and a 90 day money back guarantee. Look for all three tools online or in stores mid to late October. The Drill/Driver has an MSRP of $89.97, Impact - $119.00, Drill - Impact Kit - $139.00, ClampSaw $129.00
