JET’s 1221VS Midi-Lathe Delivers More Speed Control

Faster is not always better, and in the case of intricate wood turnings, a lower speed is often more desirable. Jet's new 1221VS is a mid-size woodworking lathe that they have developed to offer greater speed control from as slow as 60 RPM all the way up to 3,00 RPM.

The tricky thing about slow turning speeds is also maintaining a good amount of torque. Jet says that with their 1 HP, 6 amp, single phase motor they have both. The 1221VS actually has three speed ranges that can be adjusted with a quick change ratchet-style belt tensioning system. Low (60 to 900 RPM), Middle (110 to 1,800 RPM) and High (220 to 3,600). All of your speed settings can be read with a digital readout that is located on the control panel next to the on/off switch and the forward/reverse switch.

The 1221VS has a turning distance of 21 ½ between centers and a 12-inch swing over the bed. The lathe headstock features 24 indexing positions and a spring-loaded spindle lock. The tailstock has an Acme thread and a through hole for drilling. Measuring 33-3/5 in. L x 11 in. W x 17-7/10 in. H the 1221VS weighs 121 lbs.
