well designed and durable
Great grinder. I have 3 and this on sees the most use. I have used it every week, more or less, for the last 7 years and it is still going strong. The paddle switch is a must have IMO. If the grinder gets away from you it stops turning. With a standard on/off toggle the grinder stays on until you grab it ( a fast way to an injury) or you unplug it. My only complaint is the that the blade guard release tab gets stuck occasionally and makes changing the orientation of the guard difficult.
Bosch angle grinder
I use to think of angle grinders primarily as a metal workers tool, but over the years I seem to be using the angle grinder more and more and incorporating them into wood related projects.
When a Bilco door and pavers project came up I knew my old hand me down grinder that I used occasionally to remove paint and stock, was not going to be up to task so I hit the market in search of a new angle grinder. I had looked at several models at the big boxes and the local hardware stores, and finally decided on the Bosch. The price was right and more importantly the Bosch kit at the time came with a diamond masonry blade, which was exactly what I needed for my project, making it a pretty good value.
The Bosch for a small grinder is a little beefy, but is well balanced and has a comfortable rubber grip handle that can be placed easily on either side of the tool. The guard is simply adjusted by loosening the screw, and stays in place with little adjustment. Discs can be easily removed by using the included spanner wrench, by locking the wheel by depressing the lock button and removing the washer with the spanner wrench.
This model features a lock on/off switch, some people prefer the paddle switch model, for safety reasons since it requires the users finger on the trigger at all time during operation, but I opted for the switched model which fit my needs better.
During operation the tool is very comfortable; vibration is pretty minimal compared to some other grinders I have used. The motor is powerful, and can handle all the tasks at hand, the most important thing is letting the tool do the work or it can get bogged down on a big piece of stone, if pressed.
Overall I am extremely pleased with this tool; I’ve used it for undercutting fireplace bricks for flooring, cutting pavers for walkways, grinding down nails and bricks, cutting metal posts, list goes on. It pretty much can handle anything I throw at it, I would definitely recommend the Bosch.
