festool_ts_sale

Festool keeps their pricing standard throughout all of their retailers and sales from the retailers are pretty much nonexistent unless Festool says so; so when a sale comes around you better jump on it.

During the months of April and May Festool will be offering a 10% off sale for their line of track saws as well as many of the track saw accessories. This would be a great time to add some extra length to your saw tracks, pick up some new blades, or even get started with your very first saw.

In addition to the track saw sale, Festool also has a 10% off closeout sale on MFT Multifunction tables and a 15% off closeout sale on C12 Cordless drills.

To take advantage of the sale print out the 10% voucher in the file below or use promo code TS1006 for online purchases. Please remember this sale does not start until April.

eurekazone track saw

Oscillation tools seemed to top the list amongst DIYers this past year, but for many professionals, the step up to track saws was high on their list. Why track saws? Because they offer table saw quality and accuracy in a much smaller more portable tool. They also have the added benefit of being much safer to operate. Today I will be going over my experiences using the Eurekazone track saw system. Eurekazone sent over the EZ Smart Guide SGS-114" kit, which includes: (1) 64” rail, (1) 50” rail, (3) rail connectors, (1) Smart Base, (2) Smart Clamps, (2) AC-1 Anti-chip inserts, and (2) AC-2 Anti-chip inserts.

The Eurekazone system, as mentioned in previous articles, is the only track saw system that can be used with existing circular saws. This feat is accomplished by mounting the EZ Smart Base to the bottom of your saw, which then rides on the EZ rail/track. This means you can use a saw you already own with little modification, you can use a new saw with little modification, or you can purchase a pre-modified EZ Ready Saw directly from EZ. EZ will also custom make Smart Bases for any size saw, so using a 16” circular saw is not out of the question (Yes, they do exist).

JLC tracksaws review

There has been a lot of talk about track saws lately with both DeWalt and Makita coming out with versions to compete with Festool. A bigger selection of a tool is always good news, but with three major tool companies out with three great saws it makes things difficult when trying to make a choice. JLC has a nice review of the track saws from Festool (TS 55), DeWalt (DWS520), and Makita (SP600K). The article has some good information for anyone looking into getting one of these systems, and will hopefully make the selection process a little easier. JLC also has a video of the Makita track saw in action. Also check out The Wood Whisperer to see his video of the DeWalt track saw.

vertcutThere has been a lot of buzz about Track Saws with both DeWalt, and Makita finally coming out with versions for the USA. But I bet many people don't know that you can turn just about any circular saw into a track saw for a fraction of the cost of a complete track saw package. After all, why should you have to buy another circular saw if you already own one, especially if it's a saw you really like?

I am talking about the EZ Smart Guide System from EurekaZone. It is one of the coolest systems I have seen in a while. You really need to check out their website, and their YouTube page to see what the system is capable of. I have been watching the videos all day, and each one shows a different cutting situation the system can handle. The basic system consists of a base that you attach to your own circular saw, or you can buy a saw with attached base from EurekaZone, and an aluminum guide rail (Track). Add a few more accessories to the system, and you have a full table saw replacement.

Added this to my wishlist. :)

DeWalt Plunge Track Saw
There has been a bit of  information floating around the  internet about DeWalt's new plunging track saws. This is somewhat big news for the building community because DeWalt is the first of the well known US companies to offer such a saw. From what I understand, these types of saws are really popular in Europe, but DeWalt is hoping to make a showing in the US. Festool is another brand that offers a plunging rail saw, but they are not as well known to your average builder or woodworker.

DeWalt will be offering both a corded and 28 volt cordless version of the saw, and both will feature a dust port that you can connect you vac/dust collector to. They will offer 3 different size rails to fit your needs, a 48" 59" and 102" and also offer a connection kit to join rails together to make them even longer. They same rail system can also be used on DeWalt routers, with a rail attachment.

Another great addition, is the anti-kickback feature. When engaged it will prevent the saw from kicking back while in the rail. This will not only save your wood and rail from the kickback cut, but it is also a great safety feature to save your much loved body parts.

The corded saw is expected to cost between $500-$700, and the cordless between $700-$900. Both saws will launch at the end of  October. The corded version cost around the same price as the Festool versions.

You can see a video of the saw in action on the DeWalt UK site. The UK site also lists an 18 volt version; we will have to wait and see if it will be available in the US.
