On the hunt for a scroll saw

Chris

I am taking a break from my normal tool related blog posts on the front page, and giving my personal blogging a go.

For a while now I have been fixated on buying a scroll saw, probably do to watching a ton of online scroll saw videos. The other reason being all of the cool projects I could finally build by owning one.

Not knowing if  scrolling is a hobby I will stick with, I don't want to spend a ton of money; but on the other hand I do not want to be put off because of poor equipment. So the hunt for a decent used scroll saw began.

The last few months I have had my eyes checking Craigslist, ebay, and the local listings. The problem is I always seem to hesitate while trying to find a better deal. Just yesterday I passed up a listing on ebay for a Hegner 18" scroll saw for $350 + $66 for shipping. That was a pretty good deal on a 10 year old saw, but I couldn't pull the trigger. It did have a bit of rust that made me stop and think, but in the end it just was a bit higher then I wanted to spend.

So the hunt continues...

I probably shouldn't share one of my secret Ebay tips, but, check out FatFingers
I always search for any and all variations on the type, brand name, and model of the tool, like the fact that scroll saws used to be called jigsaws. Good deals await those with perseverance and patience. set up a bunch of saved searches and Ebay can email you when they come up.
